Obituary for Bertha M Rohrick (Weitzel)

Bertha M Rohrick (Weitzel)

Bertha M. Rohrick, 86, formerly of Lyman, died Friday, January 15, 2016 at Golden Living Center in Scottsbluff, after a brief illness. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 26, 2016 at Jones Mortuary in Mitchell with Pastor Cindy Bowker officiating. Inurnment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery near Scottsbluff. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorials may be directed to Immanuel United Church of Christ in Lyman.

Bertha was born February 6, 1929 in Melbeta to John L. and Mary (Kuxhaus) Weitzel. She met Robert LeRoy Rohrick, the love of her life, at the Silver Glide Ball Room in Lyman and they were married on February 16, 1949 during the blizzard of ’49 in Lyman.

They lived in Lyman where LeRoy farmed. She and LeRoy owned and operated the R&S John Deere Dealership. Bertha was also later a partner and bookkeeper at her husband’s hardware store, Roy’s Supply, in Lyman. She later went to work for Couplatmatic and Eaton Corporation in Lyman until her retirement.

Bertha received her GED and her diploma was signed the same day as her daughter, Jo Ann’s, in 1972. Bertha was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Lyman and served on the Lyman Library Board and planning commission. She also served on the election board for many years.

She and her husband, in their earlier years, loved bowling, square dancing and weekend trips to the lake with their boat. Bertha enjoyed canning the produce her husband grew in their large garden. Sewing was one of her many talents and she was a talented seamstress. She was well-known among family and friends for her German cooking. She never missed her grandchildren’s events and cherished family dinners at their home. She especially loved spending time with family and friends.

Bertha is survived by her daughters, Cyndi (Jim) Neuwirth and Jo Ann (Curtis) Robinson; grandchildren, Jim (Lisa) Neuwirth and their children, Charles, Jonathan, and Annika, Jodi (Justin) Leisy and children, Janessa, Jaedyn and Jacob Curtis, Cristen Robinson, and Cara (Jesse) Leeling; sisters, Carol Corbin, Darla (Dave) Winn, and Elaine (Mike) Collins all of Casper, WY; brother, Rodger (Sharon) Weitzel of Lander, WY; sisters-in-law, Trudy Weitzel of Harlingen, TX, Darlene Hartley of Little Rock, AR, Frieda Foos of Torrington, WY, Gladys Dunten of Portland, OR, and Nancy Howard; Aunt Lydia Dillman of Morrill and Aunt Mary (Don) VanPelt of Wheatland, WY; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding Bertha in death were her parents; her husband; great grandchildren, Joshua and Jonathan Leisy; brothers, Robert Weitzel and Wilbert Weitzel; sister, Martha Weitzel; and brother-in-law, Milton Corbin.
